AllSouth Max Cash Secured Visa Card Credit Card Review

Overview

The AllSouth Max Cash Secured Visa Card is a visa card issued by AllSouth Federal Credit Union, based in Columbia, SC. As a credit union card, eligibility is usually tied to membership, which in turn is usually tied to where you live or who you work for.

If you are separating or co-parenting

These are the parts of this card that land differently when a household is becoming two. None of it is a recommendation — your own position decides that.

• A deposit instead of a credit history. A secured card asks for a refundable deposit rather than an established file, which is the usual way to open a first account in your own name. What to sort out before you apply.
• Ask what it costs to hold. One income is now covering two households, so an annual fee is a fixed cost worth knowing before you apply rather than after. Fees change, so get the current figure from AllSouth Federal Credit Union.
• Points on spending that is already shared. A large share of post-separation spending goes on the children, and much of it is reimbursed between co-parents afterwards. Whichever parent’s card pays keeps the points, which is worth agreeing rather than discovering. What counts as a shared expense.
• Membership is restricted. Credit union eligibility is usually tied to where you live or who you work for. Check you still qualify if the separation involves a move, and before counting on this card as your plan.

More on money after a separation: rebuilding your credit · dividing debt · dividing property

Conclusion

This review covers what the AllSouth Max Cash Secured Visa Card is and how its structure lands if you are separating or co-parenting. It deliberately does not quote an interest rate, an annual fee or a credit limit, because those are set by AllSouth Federal Credit Union, vary with your own creditworthiness, and change often enough that any figure printed here would be out of date before you read it.

For the current terms, go to AllSouth Federal Credit Union directly. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau also publishes a free card comparison tool built from terms that issuers report twice a year, which is a better place to compare rates than any review page.
