American Bank and Trust Max Cash Secured Visa Credit Card Review

Overview

The American Bank and Trust Max Cash Secured Visa is a visa card issued by American Bank and Trust, based in Sioux Falls, SD. As a credit union card, eligibility is usually tied to membership, which in turn is usually tied to where you live or who you work for.

If you are separating or co-parenting

These are the parts of this card that land differently when a household is becoming two. None of it is a recommendation — your own position decides that.

• A deposit instead of a credit history. A secured card asks for a refundable deposit rather than an established file, which is the usual way to open a first account in your own name. What to sort out before you apply.
• Ask what it costs to hold. One income is now covering two households, so an annual fee is a fixed cost worth knowing before you apply rather than after. Fees change, so get the current figure from American Bank and Trust.
• Membership is restricted. Credit union eligibility is usually tied to where you live or who you work for. Check you still qualify if the separation involves a move, and before counting on this card as your plan.

Conclusion

This review covers what the American Bank and Trust Max Cash Secured Visa is and how its structure lands if you are separating or co-parenting. It deliberately does not quote an interest rate, an annual fee or a credit limit, because those are set by American Bank and Trust, vary with your own creditworthiness, and change often enough that any figure printed here would be out of date before you read it.

For the current terms, go to American Bank and Trust directly. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau also publishes a free card comparison tool built from terms that issuers report twice a year, which is a better place to compare rates than any review page.
